As building designers, our work should have climate action embedded in every decision. By reducing operational and embodied carbon, buildings, neighbourhoods and cities can have a positive impact on the future of our planet.
Padraig is a sustainability-focused architect at IBI, guiding projects to reach Net Zero and deliver significant greenhouse gas emission reductions, through innovative and cost-effective measures. He is a Certified Passive House Designer, consulting on IBI’s portfolio of large Passive House buildings across Europe and North America. He was responsible for the architectural detailing on IBI’s first certified passive house building and continues to grow his portfolio in residential, cultural and healthcare buildings, which meet this stringent building energy standard. Padraig’s knowledge of high-performance building is combined with his whole life carbon analysis studies, accounting for embodied carbon to achieve carbon neutral buildings. Working in the UK and North America, lessons learnt from both continents are being applied to broaden IBI’s approach to Net Zero architecture.

Fouad Mustafa is Global Director, P3 Infrastructure. He is a Professional Engineer and member of the Professional Engineers of Ontario, the Consulting Engineers of Ontario, the Ontario Society of Engineers, and the American Public Transportation Association. He is also on the Board of Directors of Consulting Engineers of Ontario. Fouad obtained a Master of Business Administration from York University and has more than 25 years of experience in the management, planning, design, and implementation of transportation infrastructure and facilities with a focus on AFP/P3 projects. He has managed large infrastructure projects worth more than $1 billion, and has worked with a wide range of public and private sector clients throughout North America and overseas.

John Byrne is a leader in IBI Group’s Geomatics offering, specializing in Land Survey Services. He has been involved with virtually every new technology in surveying over the last 45 years, including first generation Satellite systems (Doppler), Offshore navigation, GPS and continues to be involved with the changes in technology with Drones and Digital scanning systems. John has been involved with the development of digital Cadastral bases across Canada and was involved in both the Parcel (Provincial) mapping of Alberta and the municipal mapping as well. A key component of his expertise is related to helping develop methods with in the Land Titles system to bringing a project to market both delivery of title and separate financing of various components of a multi-use project. He has also been recognized as an expert witness by the Alberta Court of Queen’s bench as it relates to planning processes.

Carlos Gutierrez De Quevedo is a mobility specialist with over ten years of experience researching and working on urban mobility projects. Carlos has a M.Sc. in Transportation from MIT supplemented by international experience in planning and policy, infrastructure, operations, analytics, and technology projects. Mr. Samson Li is a Professional Mechanical Engineer with over 10 years of experience in designing, specifying, and coordinating Tunnel Ventilation Systems (TVS) for various rail transit projects throughout his career; heavily involved throughout the life-cycle from design, specification, installation, to testing and commissioning of the TVS for these rapid transit projects. He also has many years of producing and reviewing fire simulation models for transit projects, and is familiar with the programs and standards involved. Having produced both mechanical and architectural drawings, combined with the experience of working with several senior architects and engineers during his career, it has provided him an understanding of the required integration and coordination of tunnel ventilation systems within transit station design.
